Exploring Český Krumlov

On Thursday, 27 August 2026, a group of international students and postdoctoral researchers from the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (UCT Prague), the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU), Charles University Faculty of Science, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IOCB Prague), and the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences set off at 7:00 a.m. by RegioJet bus for a full-day excursion to the historic town of Český Krumlov.

The group reflected the truly international character of Czech research institutions. Participants came from a wide range of countries, with the largest groups representing India and Pakistan. They were joined by researchers and students from several European countries, as well as a participant from Mexico and a scientist from Lesotho.

The programme included a guided tour of the Český Krumlov Castle led by a professional guide, followed by lunch on a pleasant riverside terrace overlooking the Vltava River. In the afternoon, the participants explored the historic town centre, the castle gardens, and the famous revolving auditorium with their guide, Ing. Bělohradský. They also enjoyed several panoramic viewpoints offering spectacular views of the old town, the castle complex, the castle tower, and St. Vitus Church. A visit to the castle moat provided an opportunity to observe one of Český Krumlov’s well-known resident bears.

Thanks to the warm and sunny weather, many participants spent their free time rafting on the Vltava River and enjoying unique views of the town from the water.

The group returned to Prague in the evening full of memorable experiences, new friendships, and lasting impressions from one of the Czech Republic’s most beautiful UNESCO-listed towns.

We would like to thank the EURAXESS Centre Prague for its financial support in covering the costs of the city guide and admission to the Český Krumlov Castle tour.
